Bongalabi Devon Stud

Bongalabi Devon Stud was founded in 1985 and is based at Lake Bathurst near Goulburn in NSW.The stud began with Devon stud bloodlinesbased on Newstead (NSW) and Naul Park (WA). Until 2003, this genetic base was expanded to include a selection of the best Devon genetics in Australia. Since 2003, the herd has been effectively closed and we have concentrated on line breeding to meet our requirements.

The Stud has grown to a breeding herd of about 250 to 300 breeders and we have moved from the traditional horned Devon to a 95% polled herd. Until 2006, our breeding focus was on female production for sale to other breeders. In 2006, we added a steer fattening experiment involving our Devon steers and a large group of Angus steers. Figures obtained from the receiving feedlot indicated that the Devon steers equalled the Angus performance, (the latter contained a group of excellent steers, winning a CAAB Award that year).
