Devon cattle are an iconic English breed of cattle. They were imported into Australia from the first days of the colony and established reputations as a flourishing breed across the far reaches of the country - from East to West and North to South.

Devons were the preferred breed for many early farmers. They were the bullocks that hauled the early wool clips from the shearing sheds to market. They were the bullocks that helped to establish the timber industry in Eastern Australia. Devons provided a basis for the beef cattle herds of Northern Australia - from Western Queensland to the Kimberleys in WA - prior to the introduction of bos indicus breeds.

They were a preferred breed for several reasons:
